A Legend of Over 150 Years
Pende Valde
Our winery is located in Yenda, NSW. Our harvest this year consisted of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. We crush, ferment and store our wines which are all bottled on the estate.
Introduction
Pende Valde was founded by William Penfold Simpson’s father, Peter Penfold Simpson, a direct descendant of the Penfold Family, in honour of his ancestors’ contribution to the Australian wine industry.
The Penfold family’s impact on this industry began with the arrival of Christopher and Mary Penfold in 1844. Their lineage, spanning seven generations, has played a pivotal role in shaping the wine industry.
The term “PendeValde” holds a special place in the family’s heart, as it was part of the marriage vows exchanged by Christopher and Mary Penfold in 1835. This phrase encapsulates the family’s unwavering commitment to producing wines of the highest quality for generations to come. In Latin, “Pende Valde” translates to “very dependable,” which remains an integral part of the Penfold family’s motto to this day. Pende Valde stands as a testament to the Penfold family’s enduring legacy in the wine industry, reflecting their steadfast dedication to the craft.
The brand represents the perfect harmony between tradition and innovation, with each bottle embodying the family’s passion for winemaking. As a tribute to the pioneers who paved the way, Pende Valde is poised to continue to make its mark on the industry for many years to come.
